Why We Like It

Quaint and quirky, with individual rooms and great beer on tap, the Lokál Inn is not a luxury choice, but it's an authentically Czech one, in a great location.

Fodor's Expert Review

The funky 18th-century Lokál Inn offers an unbeatable combination of location, ambience, and convenience. It's situated around the corner from the Charles Bridge (but far enough away to escape the crowds). The house bar and restaurant are often hopping with people, which can make some rooms noisy if you aren't part of the cheery crowd downstairs.

Room

Many of the rooms offer historic touches like original painted wood-beamed ceilings and handmade wooden furnishings as well as modern amenities like large flat-screen TVs and anti-allergy Klinmam bed linens. There's free Wi-Fi throughout.

You Should Know There is no air-conditioning in the rooms, which can make them very hot in summer. The hotel provides fans.

Bathroom

The bathrooms are workable and clean, with good showers. As the hotel itself says: No frills, more thrills.

Lobby

The lobby is more of a reception desk in the corridor leading to the hotel's courtyard and bar, but it is a charming enough way in to the 18th century building.

Dining

The house restaurant, U Bílé kuželky, offers authentic Czech cooking in a traditional setting at reasonable prices. In winter, when Prague's weather can be quite brutal, holing up in the cellar-like surroundings is very comforting.

Drinking

The Lokál Inn's bar is regularly stuffed full of patrons sampling its top quality Czech beer.

Tip Try the beef tartar. It's a Czech traditional dish, and U Bílé kuželky does a great version.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Almost all of the tourist sights of Prague are reachable on foot from Lokál. For trips further afield, there is a tram stop (Malostranské náměstí) a few minutes away.

Restaurants

With traditional Czech grub available without even leaving the hotel, you can branch out from Lokál for a treat at the literally palatial, candlelit Pálffy Palác (7-minute walk). Or Café Kafíčko (4-minute walk), on a pleasant square just the other side of Charles Bridge, has good coffee and great strudel.

Bars

Bluelight bar (2-minute walk) is a grimy dive bar with a great atmosphere just up the road. Or for yet more beer (30 Czech brews on tap), try Prague Beer Museum (10-minute walk) across the bridge.
