Rows of steeply banked baroque gardens rise behind the palaces of Valdstejnská ulice. It's a climb if you enter from the street side, but the many shady arbors and niches are worth the exertion. The garden, with its frescoes and statuary, was restored with support from a fund headed by Czech president Václav Havel and Britain's Prince Charles. Renovation seems to be never-ending at the lower entrance, but don't be deterred by the barriers and construction equipment -- press on, through the courtyard and up the stairs. You can also enter directly from the upper, south gardens of Prague Castle in summer.
