The most important film festival in the Czech Republic is in the spa town of Karlovy Vary. The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival ranks with Cannes, Berlin, and Venice among important European festivals. Visitors to the festival, which happens at the start of July, have included Lauren Bacall, Morgan Freeman, Michael Douglas, and Gus van Sant.
