andel's by Vienna House Prague
Stroupežnického 21, Prague, Praha 150 00, Czech RepublicWhy We Like It
Funky but not in-yer-face, andel's by Vienna House Prague is a decent choice in an as-yet somewhat undiscovered neighborhood in Prague (at least by most tourists). The architecture and nearby riverbank are still beautiful though, and a stay here can feel more authentic than in the center. It is a bit of a schlep to reach the main sights though.
Fodor's Expert Review
Right next to one of the city's best shopping malls, this simple, modernist property is where many of the young, up-and-coming British trendsetters stay. And they should feel right at home, considering that the hotel was designed by Britain's Jestico + Whiles. It's popular with the stylish business traveler, too, with airy rooms decorated in a sleek style, glass-walled meeting and conference rooms, and luxury apartments for longer-term stays.
You Should Know The hotel is popular with tour groups so lone travellers or couples can feel a little crowded out.

Room
Rooms are all fairly large, comfortable and plain but bright: in red and yellow with black and white touches. Twin beds are available in some rooms.
Bathroom
Bathrooms are white and tiled, with some red detailing, which may not be to all tastes. There are showers and underfloor heating.
Tip The hotel has a "green bag" system, where you hang your bag on your doorknob the night before (to indicate that you don't want your room cleaned the following day, in order to save water and help the environment). Staff put a present in the bag by way of thanks.
Lobby
A trendy grey brick reception area continues the hotel's low-key hip vibe.
Spa
As of summer 2017, the hotel's spa and fitness area is under reconstruction. Check in with the staff to get the latest.
Dining
Breakfast, with organic breads and pastries, cheeses and jams, is a good spread and served in the Restaurant Delight. Oscar's Brasserie, with its slightly dated take on modern decor (think white and black leather chairs), has a wider-ranging menu for lunch and dinner.
Drinking
Oscar's Bar, part of the attached brasserie, also has a modern style but the look works better here, with red chairs and a backlit bar.

Getting Around
The hotel is not really walking distance from the main sights--you'll need to use public transport or drive. But Anděl is a main transport hub and the links are great, quick and reliable. The neighborhood itself is vibrant and interesting and has great shopping.
Restaurants
The Staropramen Brewery (6-minute walk) is right on your doorstep in Anděl and delivers good traditional food as well as top quality, fresh-as-you-like beer. For something a bit different (and very popular with trendy foodie Czechs), try Wine Food Market (15-minute walk), a stroll down the river, where you will find excellent Italian meats, cheeses, and wine.
