Day Trips from Prague Places

Orlík

Orlík is the most remote of the usual day trips from Prague, but it's especially popular in summer when the area is a beehive of people darting around. Czech families take short vacations here, and ferryboats run up and down the river. Plan ahead and bring your swimsuit if it's a hot summer day to join in the fun. What looks like a lake is really a large reservoir held back by the Orlík dam, part of a cascade of dams on the Vltava River. Its construction in the early 1960s was epic, consuming 43,750,000 cubic feet of concrete and 50,000 tons of reinforced steel. The lake behind the dam today is about 200 feet deep.
