Fodor's Review:
Dripping with glamour, this Italian-owned hotel has an imperial beauty. High ceilings present space for towering palm trees and playful design touches like gargantuan floor lamps and an enormous umbrella lend it an Alice-in-Wonderland quality. A cigar bar is found near the lobby, where you can relax with a cognac inside one of the oldest vauls in Central Europe. Attention to detail trickles down to the cloudlike duvets in the rooms and the fountain in the indoor pool. Old-fashioned rooms are in the original building, which was once used as a bank and have retained the monied feel. Modern rooms are available in the adjoining building.

Comfort and luxury in Prague.

A remarkable hotel with incredible Italian design - the staff are open and friendly, and I don't agree with what youve said about the snobby front desk. Vera (the concierge) was the most helpful and I'm sorry I didn't see her to say so before I left the hotel. The poor doorman opening and closing the entrance doors looked as if his nose was about to drop off with frostbite and the hotel car drivers are a bit mad but it all adds to the charm of the Carlo IV. It is an oasis in a city developing between the old and new. Apart from the above, although the spa is truly luxurious, the fitness room is a bit ... eh ... grim, and the bar prices ARE extortionate - but in general the service was exemplary and I would go back again, although perhaps not to experience the bar prices unless I have a credit card transplant. I really like good hotels and this IS a good hotel. It may be let down by some of the surrounding buildings, but there is construction work going on which is likely to increase the appeal of the immediate surroundings. I would recommend this hotel from which to explore Prague.
