Trg Bana Jelačića (Ban Jelačić Square)

Trg Bana Jelačića (Ban Jelačić Square) Review

Buildings lining the square date from 1827 onward and include several fine examples of Viennese Secessionist architecture. The centerpiece is an equestrian statue of Ban Jelačić, the first Croatian viceroy, erected in 1866. After World War II the Communist government ordered the dismantling and removal of the statue, but it was put back in place in 1991.
