Whether Varazdin's best pizza is here or at the more laid-back and affordable Domenico is debatable, but here you can have your pie by candlelight, with soothing background music under brick-arched ceilings to boot. Across the street from a peaceful shaded park, a five-minute walk from the center of town, the Angelus has a huge menu that also includes plenty of pastas and other, meatier (and more pricey) fare, not to mention a half dozen creative salads and lots of beer (including Guinness and Kilkeny). The desserts may sound scrumptious, by the way, but the peaches capelleti, for one, is in the plural only because the single peach at its center—in a bath of cherry sauce and soft, sweet curd and ice cream—has been sparingly sliced in half.
