  • 1. Croccantino

    $

It's getting harder and harder to find quality ice cream in Southern Dalmatia, so you'll be relieved to find Croccantino, a fun, colorful little café on the waterfront promenade in Orebić. It serves exquisite homemade gelato, artisan cakes, and cupcakes, as well as excellent smoothies, coffee, and milkshakes. If you must wait to board the ferry to Korčula, leave your car in the queue and walk over to Croccantino for a treat, where you can keep an eye on the port from a seat on the shady terrace.

Obala Pomoraca 30, Orebic, Dubrovacko-Neretvanska, Croatia
    020-714–416

    Known For

    • Homemade gelato and cakes
    • Waterfront location
    • One of the best gelaterias in Southern Dalmatia
  • 2. Estravaganca

    $$$

The epitome of a hidden gem, there is no menu or prices at Estravaganca, just a chalkboard with the catch of the day, and the owner who will rush out to grab your boat ropes, show you to your table, bring out the fish for you to choose from, then light the fire, and grill it right in front of you. Most days there are mussels and oysters kept in the sea and pulled out just minutes before they're put on your plate; same goes for the lobster, which is then cooked in a spicy red sauce with homemade pasta. Try the grilled wild deep sea fish such as flounder, monkfish, or amberjack, which are filleted and barbecued to perfection. You can get there by car, but the best way to arrive is by boat.

  • 3. Stari Kapetan

    $$

Designed to look like an actual ship with a life-size captain at the helm, what at first glance might seem like a tourist trap is actually one of the best restaurants in town. Try the seafood platter for two, with tuna steak, grilled squid, mussels, scampi, and extraordinary sea bream, plus a glass of local wine.
