Opposite the votive pillar, the Franjevački Samostan i Crkva Duha Svetoga was built in the late 19th century on the foundations of a 13th-century Gothic church ravaged by the Turks. Inside are impressive baroque altars and paintings, and a crypt (under the sanctuary) where a number of prominent local citizens—judges, political leaders, and nobility—are buried, including friar Luka Ibrišimović, credited with liberating the Požega area from the Turks. The monastery has a library of some 15,000 books, many of them rare historic volumes.
