Fodor's Expert Review Hotel Bastion

Bedem zadarskih pobuna 13, Zadar, Zadarska, 23000, Croatia Fodor's Choice

Elegant, with artistic decoration and a refined ambience, Hotel Bastion offers a chic respite for travelers with a taste for sophistication. The hotel is high-tech, with “smart-room technology” that controls amenities via a digital display and excellent Wi-Fi throughout. Take a trip (or several) to the deluxe spa and pamper your well-heeled traveling feet in a Kneipp footbath. Eat at the hotel’s internationally renowned slow-food restaurant Kaštel while watching ferries cross the bay from your perch on one of two terraces. The waitstaff is exceptional, and happily elaborate the unique qualities of Pag prosciutto (left to dry outdoors by strong bora winds) and Pag cheese (flavored by the salt left behind by sea breezes on the sheep’s grass). A quality dining experience that is one of the best to be had in Zadar.

PROS

  • perhaps the best slow-food restaurant in the country
  • location in the Old Town
  • stylish interiors

CONS

  • small, so often fully booked in high season
  • Old Town is pedestrian only and parking nearby can be problematic
  • guests pay to use the spa
