If You Have 3 Days

With only three days, start off on Krk to enjoy a little island life, heading straight to the action on Baska beach. From here, either choose another town like Malinska or Krk Town, or make your way to Rijeka, visiting the fruit and vegetable market and possibly taking in a cultural exhibit or two. On the final day, scoot farther west for some classic seaside resorting in Opatija, and don't miss an afternoon stroll along the Lungomare.

If You Have 5 Days

Begin your trip either in Opatija or Krk, reversing the three-day itinerary to suit your fancy, and add a visit to the relatively wild island of Cres. Ferries connect northern Cres (Porozina) to Brestova west of Opatija and central Cres (Merag) with Krk at Valbiska. A day divided between swimming at the beaches and relaxing in a café or ice-cream parlor in Cres Town can be enhanced by a second day exploring the more remote areas of the island, taking in some of the smaller villages or the rugged north.

If You Have 7 Days

With a full week, explore the upscale marina at Mali Losinj for one day (reachable by bus from Cres Town). You'll have to work your way back to Rijeka or Krk at this point to get to Rab, as ferries don't connect Cres and Losinj to Rab. On your way, spend an extra day on the Opatija Riviera, taking in the pretty towns of Lovran and Icici. From Rijeka jump on a bus or, in summer, a catamaran and head south to sample some of the region's only sandy beaches on the beautifully lush island of Rab. Spend at least a day admiring the medieval churches and campaniles of Rab Town.
