For a bit of wine tasting with Istrian prosciutto and similar hearty fare to accompany the elixir, stop by this house-cum–wine cellar on a lonely country road about 10 minutes outside Grožnjan by car. You can get not only a tasty selection of five Istrian wines—for example, malvazija among the whites and teran among the reds—but also a selection of hearty snacks from its simple menu and even a breathtaking view of the tiny village of Kostanjica several hundred yards away. Though the friendly family members here speak little English, communication need not be a barrier to a pleasant experience; you need to be able to say little more than "vino" and "prosciutto." Figure on at least 120 Kn per person for a full meal and a glass of wine. Since finding your way there through the hills outside Grožnjan is much easier said than done, do check with the town's tourist-information office for directions here and/or to similar wine-tasting opportunities nearby. Call in advance to arrange a visit.
