Namur

Namur

In Namur, remnants of the Roman empire stand side by side with the contemporary regional seat of government. The majority of the city's points of interests lie in the historic center, and the best way to discover them is on foot. However, no visit to Namur is complete without a trip up to the Citadelle. It overlooks Namur's characteristic 17th-century Mansard rooftops (made from pierre de Namur, a bluish-gray stone quarried in the area) and the river valleys beyond. At sunset, the view is magical. From this vantage point you can observe Namur's rapid growth since it was designated the seat of government for all of Wallonia in 1986. The population of 105,000 is now spread among 25 neighboring townships.
