Poperinge

During the war, the only part of Belgium not occupied by the Germans was a small area in the southwest corner of West-Vlaanderen (West Flanders). Here, in the quiet provincial town of Poperinge, the British Army set up its headquarters, accommodating up to 200,000 men. The city has some 200 hectares of hops-growing fields in its surroundings, making it the hops capital of the country.
