To reach Gent by car, take the A4 motorway to Antwerp, and then follow the E17. The journey takes around two hours. By train, take a Thalys high-speed train to Brussels's Gare de Midi/Brussel Zuid station, then change to a Belgian Railways (SNCB/NMBS) train bound for Gent. There are two an hour, and the trip from Brussels takes 35 minutes. Gent St-Pieters station is a little distance from the city center, so hop on a tram or take a taxi when you arrive. Tram 1 heads from the station to the center, but due to construction work it currently ends some 500 yards short of the action. If walking the final stretch is a problem for you, take a cab.
