Auberge du Pêcheur
Auberge du Pêcheur Review
A lovely half-hour drive (or a somewhat longer bicycle ride) from Gent brings you to this riverside inn, which houses no less than two great restaurants. For a casual bite try the Green, a brasserie where the menu leans to hearty dishes, such as dark, meaty spareribs. Meanwhile, the formal Orangerie restaurant (reservations essential) serves six-course meals that might include grilled turbot, pigeon served with sweetbreads, or eel baked in a cream sauce. If weather permits, ask for a table on the terrace; the magnificent view of the river is one you'll never forget. Both restaurants offer a daily prix fixe menu. If you are overcome by the sumptuous spread, there are tasteful guest rooms ($$) available upstairs, some with a view of the Leie.
