1 Day: Arrive in Gent as early as possible and begin your tour with a classic view of the city's three towers from St. Michael's bridge. Divide the rest of your day between the guild houses of the Graslei district, the Gothic cathedral, and the Gravensteen, the ancient castle of the counts of Flanders. After a dinner in the lively Patershol area, take a walk around the illuminated historic district.
3 Days: Follow the previous itinerary but spend two nights in Gent. On the second day you'll have extra time to visit the city's attractions and museums. You could also explore the Leie river area by bike or motorboat. If you haven't already done so, take the last day to explore the rural countryside of western Flanders, stopping at serene villages and the World War I sights around Ieper.
