La Roue d'Or

La Roue d'Or Review

Bright orange and yellow murals pay humorous homage to Surrealist René Magritte in this excellent Art Nouveau brasserie. Bowler-hatted gentlemen ascend serenely to the ceiling, a blue sky inhabited by tropical birds. The good cuisine includes traditional Belgian fare—a generous fish waterzooi and homemade frites—as well as such staples of the French brasserie repertory as lamb's tongue vinaigrette with shallots, veal kidneys with tarragon and watercress cream, and foie gras. Menus in English are on hand.

Excellent food, let down by poor service. I was travelling alone and was pushed into a corner immediately, promptly forgotten about and received poor service for the remainder of the night. Shame, because the atmosphere was otherwise good, as were the food and wine. Given the price, however, I suspect you could do better elsewhere.

I ate their rabbit with plums(prunes)for lunch on 4-15-09 and became ill.
I know this restaurant caused my illness because the only thing I ate all day prior, were 2 croissants for breakfast. I started to become ill in the evening. I had violent vomiting and diarrhea all night, the illness started to subside in the morning.
