La Quincaillerie
La Quincaillerie Review
The name means "The Hardware Store," and that's precisely what this place used to be. It still looks the part, except now there are tables perched on the narrow balcony, and there's an oyster bar downstairs. It attracts a stylish, youngish clientele and offers good deals on business lunches. The menu consists mostly of brasserie standbys, but it's enlivened by such selections as honey-baked Barbary duck with lime, and a glorious seafood platter.

There is much to recommend this restaurant but it falls short on service and value. The "young duck" I had was superb but the fish soup was vastly overpriced at 14 Euros. It reminded me of first-rate crab soup in my hometown of Baltimore though at three times the price and without whole pieces of seafood. While the staff was extremely friendly and earnest to please, they were incredibly busy - literally running at times - which made for a chaotic setting. At those prices, one deserves service that does not require looking for and flagging down servers when you need them. Adding a few more servers and moderating some of the prices would turn this into a real find.

We have eaten here several times. In the price range-medium this lively fun restaurant offeres fantastic value. The servers-mostly women are very friendly and helpful. On-line booking is useful. The food is well presented and tasty. Good wine list for a medium priced resto. But....the athmosphere is really what this place is about! Buzzing! Not too much noise though! You can even see all the chefs working frantically to get everything just right for you-and you get a smile as you pass by!
