Fodor's Expert Review Aux Armes de Bruxelles

$$$ Lower Town Belgian

Editor's Note: This location is reported to be under new ownership and therefore this review may contain inaccuracies.

A reliable choice among the many tourist traps of the Ilôt Sacré, this kid-friendly restaurant dates from the early 1900s, but in 2007 was taken over by the French group behind the excellent Brasserie Flo chain. It still manages to attract a largely local clientele with its slightly tarnished middle-class elegance and Belgian classics: turbot waterzooi (stew), a variety of steaks, and Zeeland mussels prepared every conceivable way. The place is cheerful and light, and service is bustling but friendly. However, because of the nature of the area, it does come at something of a premium in terms of the bill.
