Musée David-et-Alice-Van-Buuren

Fodor's Review:

A perfect 1930s Art Deco interior in fine woodwork gives this museum's art collection some competition for your attention. The period made-to-order carpets and furnishings set off paintings by the Van Buurens, van Gogh sketches, and old masters including a Bruegel, The Fall of Icarus, one of the three versions he painted. The house is surrounded by lush formal gardens; one section, the Picturesque Garden, applies deco geometric concepts to the plantings. There's a basic brochure in English. To get here via public transit, take tram 23 or 90 to the Marianne stop.

  • Cost: EUR 10, EUR 5 for gardens only
  • Open: Tues.-Sun. 2-5:30 by appointment for groups of up to 20
  • Metro: Tram: 23, 90
