At the end of the 19th century there were 35 breweries near Hasselt; sadly, only one remains. However, De Kluis does brew Belgium's most famous wheat beer. De Witte van Hoegaarden is a blond, slightly effervescent, thirst-quenching beer, which tastes best on a hot summer day.
