This historic warehouse built for German merchants in the 16th century is the last surviving example of such storehouses, which marked the expansion of the Nieuwstad (New town). For years it lay dormant, then was rediscovered in the 1950s by a group of artists who held avant-garde art exhibitions and heated debates. Now it's only open during exhibitions but merits a visit simply for its architectural importance, boasting Brabant Gothic brick and sandstone, with arched portals and marble reflecting Italian Renaissance influences. The site's café is open daily if you need to rest weary limbs as you admire the building.
