An oasis of peace and quiet in the heart of the city, 't Elzenveld is a cultural center located in the medieval buildings of the former St. Elisabeth General Hospital. The tranquil, cloistered gardens, dating from 1804, are gorgeous with trees, shrubs, and exotic plants. The old convent has been renovated into guest rooms but still gives a glimpse of its former life with parquet floors and period furniture. Rooms range from small to spacious but aren't air-conditioned. Pros: quiet location; historic building. Cons: some rooms small.
