Claimed to be the world's oldest, this zoo has retained its original baroque design, but new settings have been created for both the animals and the public. In one case, you gaze out over a natural habitat from inside one of the former animal houses. The zoo is constantly adding new attractions and undergoing renovations, so there's plenty to see. A 25-year-old John Irving, living in Vienna at the time, used the Tiergarten as the setting for his first novel, "Setting Free the Bears"
