Vienna's famous Plachutta chain has added another restaurant to its stable of eateries. Located in a side street near Kärntnerstrasse, this restaurant focuses on traditional Austrian dishes (the "Best Schnitzel in Vienna"). Other favorites on the menu include pork roast with cabbage and dumplings covered in a light caraway sauce, and roasted veal liver with majoram gravy over buttered rice. (The beef used here is obtained from small Austrian farms.) The decor is stark
white, the interior long and narrow, the perfect contrasting canvas for the warm, comfort food it serves up. The proximity to the opera house, in case its name doesn't give it away, should be a clue that among the dinner guests will be many of the city's regular operagoers, sitting for a meal before the show.
