Following the trend toward smaller boutique properties, this new luxury accommodation takes its place alongside some of the Vienna's opulent grand hotels, at a somewhat more reasonable price. The 1860 historic facade remains, as does the old-fashioned wrought-iron elevator, but otherwise the house oozes sumptuous modernity, with a soothing color scheme fitting to the city: café au lait with splashes of pistachio throughout. The elegant entrance is discreet but welcoming and the rooms have modern amenities like flat-screen TVs and Nespresso machines. The spa and gym area on the top floor is state of the art, with a steam bath and sauna that has views overlooking the church of St. Charles. Pros: has the best vodka bar in Vienna; you can often find good last-minute deals. Cons: trams frequently thunder around the block.
