Griechenbeisl
Griechenbeisl Review
Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert all dined here—so how can you resist? Neatly tucked away in a quiet and quaint area of the Old City, this ancient inn goes back half a millennium. You can hear its age in the creaking floorboards when you walk through some of the small, dark-wood panel rooms. Yes, it's touristy, yet the food, including all the classic hearty dishes like goulash soup, Wiener Schnitzel, and Apfelstrudel, is as good as in many other Beisln. The Mark Twain room has walls and ceiling covered with signatures of the famed who have been served here.

We had an extremely sad experience at GRIECHENBEISL in Vienna. 3 days ago, the 5 of us tried to have a nice evening there, made a reservation and arrived on time. Unfortunately, we still had to wait for more than 15 minutes to be led into a room where the table was not ready, in spite of the fact that the lady of the house finally decided to sit us . In fact, the waiter was very upset we were there, he shouted at us that the table was not ready and then started to swear at us in German. Unfortunately for him (and for us), we were better equipped at languages than the waiter thought: in spite of the fact that we spoke English, some of us understood the German curse. We complained (again) to the waiter himself, who played innocent, and then to the lady of the house, Frau Wagner herself, who was as unfriendly as the waiter and told us to leave if we were not pleased with the service. Of course we left, sad to see that a restaurant with such a fame could have such an extremely bad service. Now, we feel it is our duty to share our experience at least with the English speaking tourists. This was our experience: if you speak ENGLISH, you should not go to GRIECHENBEISL because you’ll have an unwanted German swearing lesson instead of good food.
