In a dormered, 16th-century house in the shadow of St. Stephen's Cathedral, this hotel began catering to court nobility in 1746. The complex is also joined to the Mozarthaus, where Mozart lived when he wrote The Marriage of Figaro. Wolfie would undoubtedly enjoy this hostelry, now outfitted with the Mozartstuberl restaurant that is aglow in "Maria Theresa yellow"; a courtyard atrium (so gigantic a tree sprouts in the middle of it); and guest rooms that radiate charm. Some rooms with Styrian wood-paneled walls are furnished with country antiques and have walk-in closets and double sinks in the sparkling bathrooms. The eight suites are two stories, and two have balconies with rooftop views of Old Vienna. Pros: staff extremely friendly; great location. Cons: a tad old-fashioned.
