In this 19th-century regal residence the lobby is all white stone and plate-glass Modernism, embodying the hotel's philosophy of "preserving the past—shaping the future." There are 35 deluxe modern or imperial-style suites; many of them are spectacular, two-story showpieces, the best done in gilded-yellow Biedermeier or Empire style. All have fresh flowers; fully equipped kitchenettes with a complimentary stock of champagne, wine, beer, and soft drinks; espresso makers; laptops with free Internet; and two bathrooms, some with gigantic whirlpool baths and saunas. Popular in its own right is the house restaurant, Restaurant Coburg, which is manned by one of the most famous chefs in the country, Christian Petz, and which has one of the best wine cellars in Europe. Pros: luxurious atmosphere; excellent on-site dining. Cons: room decor can feel a bit over the top; pricey.
