Universität (University of Vienna)

Universität (University of Vienna) Review

After the one in Prague, Vienna's is the oldest university in the German-speaking world (founded in 1365, but this is not the original building). The main section of the university is a massive block in Italian Renaissance style designed by Heinrich Ferstel and built between 1873 and 1884. Thirty-eight statues representing important men of letters decorate the front of the building, while the rear, which encompasses the library (with nearly 2 million volumes), is adorned with sgraffito.
