Theater an der Wien

Theater an der Wien Review

For decades the Theater an der Wien, a beautiful rococo-style historic theater dating to 1801, was misused as a contemporary musical venue. Now this building—which is closely linked to Beethoven, who lived here, and to Schikaneder, the librettist who wrote The Magic Flute for Mozart—has renewed its role as an opera house, attracting an increasingly international crowd. It's open year-round with a premiere nearly every month. The selection of works performed here is tremendous, ranging from Janacek to Prokofiev, Monteverdi, and Bach.
