The birthplace of the renowned Mozart tenor Richard Tauber (1891-1948), the "Black Bear" is a traditional house filled with memorabilia on a quiet side street in the center of the Old City, a block from the pedestrian zone. The floors and walls are of gleaming wood, sprightly curtains decorate the windows, and the low, modern beds have fluffy white comforters. Some rooms contain imaginative bathrooms with brick-and-gray-tile tubs set out in the open. Rooms differ considerably in size; ask to see your room first, if possible. The hotel also has a very good Heurige-style restaurant.
