By Train
The geography of the area means that rail lines run mainly north-south. Where the trains don't go, buses do, so if you allow enough time you can cover virtually all the area by public transportation. The main bus routes through the region are: Bad Aussee to Grundlsee; Bad Ischl to Gosau, Hallstatt, Salzburg, and St. Wolfgang; Mondsee to St. Gilgen and Salzburg; St. Gilgen to Mondsee; Salzburg to Bad Ischl, Mondsee, St. Gilgen, and Strobl.
