Traunkirchen

Traunkirchen Review

About 4½ km (3 mi) north of Ebensee on Route 145 you'll come to Traunkirchen, a little village where Arnold Schoenberg invented his 12-tone method of composition; stop for a look at the famous "fishermen's pulpit" in the parish church next to a convent founded by the nuns from Nonnberg in Salzburg. This 17th-century Baroque marvel, carved from wood and burnished with silver and gold, portrays the astonished fishermen of the Sea of Galilee pulling in their suddenly full nets at Jesus' direction.
