Carpe Diem. Dietrich Mateschitz (who also invented the Red Bull energy drink) together with Jörg Wörther put their heads together to create something unique: small dishes—both savory and sweet—served in "cones." Pickled perch with artichokes and asparagus tips arrives in a polenta cone, while a potato cone bursts with prime beef with creamed spinach and horseradish. Mix and match to create a delicious meal; be prepared to have your bill add up quickly. You can either sit inside in the barlike atmosphere or, in summer, on the open terrace. Getreidegasse 50, Salzburg, A-5020. 0662/848800. www.carpediemfinestfingerfood.com. Reservations essential.

We were intrigued by the concept of the small dishes, some served in cones. The two of us has several dishes. The food varied from OK for most dishes to delicious for a couple. For the price and the unusual concept, I expected more impressive dishes. The good news… They have a non-smoking area.

Just what we like -- finger food in a nice, comfortable atmosphere. Yes, the place has got class, but the food is BAD BAD BAD and way overpriced. Little tiny tiny cones of bland combinations. Go to one of the wonderful restaurants serving very good Indian food instead if you want a change from Austrian food.
