Fodor's Review

In the heart of the Old Innsbruck's pedestrian area, this hotel is said to be one of Europe's oldest hotels, and since 1390 it has welcomed nearly every king, emperor, duke, or poet who passed through Innsbruck. Emperor Joseph II, King Ludwig II of Bavaria, Goethe and Paganini all stayed here. All rooms are different, and many have been stylishly updated. Ask for 411 for a view of the iconic Golden Roof, or 504 for a view of the Clock Tower from your own private terrace

(which doubles as the hotel's little kitchen garden). One of the most recently renovated and loveliest rooms is 102, with walls three-feet thick, a 200-year-old timber ceiling, and original stained glass windows.
