Adjacent to the train station, this elegant hotel has provided lodging to the celebrated and wealthy since it opened in 1869. It has lost none of its warmth and charm in the ensuing years. Bavarian King Ludwig II is reported to have called it "the most desirable place in Innsbruck to celebrate a festival." Inside, modern Italian interior design meets traditional Tyrolian style. Rooms are richly appointed and extremely comfortable, and the staff provides personal, attentive service. Ask for a tour of the splendid Barocksaal, a meeting room built in 1883 by Ludwig II's own architect and, thankfully, untouched by the extensive bombing the hotel sustained during World War II. Pros: spacious rooms; modern lobby; nice bar. Cons: few nice views.
