A great place to stop between Salzburg and Innsbruck is Das Bräu, about 25 km (15 mi) northeast of St. Johann in Tirol. There are two restaurants, one for casual dining and the other for a more elegant meal. In the "rural" restaurant—with red-gingham tablecloths and cowbells, harnesses, and stirrups hanging from the wooden beams—dishes include locally caught fish, fried chicken, and grilled lamb. If you are going upscale, you'll be offered delights such as Fogosh fillet in pepper sauce with potato straws cream-cheese parfait with strawberry pulp. The desserts are scrumptious beyond belief. If you don't feel like driving on, you can stay overnight in one of the pleasant bedrooms upstairs.
