Dachstein cable-car ride

Dachstein cable-car ride Review

Take the impressive Dachstein cable-car ride to the top of the Alps. A fully suspended steel cable carries up to 70 persons a distance of more than 6,600 feet in about 10 minutes to the top of the Dachstein glacier, 8,900 feet high. This glacier cable car, completed in 1969, is a remarkable engineering achievement. When you reach the top, step out onto the Dachstein Skywalk. This glass-floored walkway juts out into the open, 820 feet above a vertical cliff face and has breathtaking views of stupendous peaks within arm's reach, almost. To the north lie the lakes of the Salzkammergut; to the west, the Tennen mountain range. South and east lie the lower Tauern mountains. You can hike over to the Dachstein peak if you're wearing proper hiking boots. In summer the south cliff at Hunerkogel is a favorite "jumping-off spot" for paragliders.
