Fodor's Expert Review Rogner Bad Blumau

Bad Blumau 100, Bad Blumau, Styria, 8283, Austria

An overnight spa resort designed by Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser (his last name means 100 waters), is about a two-hour train ride northeast of Graz, and is home to pool after pool of mineral waters. Guests spend the day warming themselves in volcano water cooled to body temperature, playing in a wave pool that simulates the ocean, getting ayurvedic massages, or taking water-sport fitness classes. The resort has a variety of eating establishments for every meal, with a focus on organic ingredients. Take a trip to the coffee bar in the morning and end the evening with a glass of Austrian wine. Though the resort has more than 300 guest rooms, the large number of pools makes it feel intimate. Austrians enter the sauna naked, and therefore bathing suits are not allowed in this area. Visitors might also see spa-goers changing in the open by the pools in the swimming area. To reach Bad Blumau, take the local train No. 3 from the main Graz train station to Fehring, and switch to the train in the direction of Wiener Neustadt, then get off the train in Bad Blumau.
