The American dollar is used throughout the territory, just as in the neighboring BVI. If you need to exchange foreign currency, you need to go to the main branch of major banks. All major credit cards and traveler's checks are generally accepted. Some places will take Discover, though it's not as widely accepted as Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.
Each of the islands has several banks. On St. Thomas, First Bank has locations in Market Square, Waterfront, Estate Thomas, Port of $ale, Red Hook, and Tutu. There are waterfront locations for Banco Popular, as well as branches in Hibiscus Alley, Sugar Estate, Fort Mylner, Red Hook, and Altona, a mile east of the airport. Scotia Bank has branches at Havensight Mall, Nisky Center, Tutu Park Mall, and the Waterfront.
St. Croix has branches of Banco Popular in Orange Grove and Sunny Isle shopping centers. V. I. Community Bank is in Orange Grove Shopping Center and in downtown Christiansted. Scotia Bank has branches in Sunny Isle, Frederiksted, Christiansted, and Sunshine Mall.
St. John has two banks. First Bank is one block up from the ferry dock, and Scotia Bank is at the Marketplace on Route 104.
