Coki Beach Review

Funky beach huts selling local foods such as pâtés (fried turnovers with a spicy ground-beef filling), quaint vendor kiosks, and a brigade of hair braiders and taxi men make this beach overlooking picturesque Thatch Cay feel like an amusement park. But this is the best place on the island to snorkel and scuba dive. Fish, including grunts, snappers, and wrasses, are like an effervescent cloud you can wave your hand through. Major renovations in late 2011 added a new bathhouse and boardwalk. Amenities: food and drink; lifeguards; parking; showers; restrooms; watersports. Best for: partiers; snorkeling.

    Scary

Nice if you want to see the locals urinating in public, harassed to buy coconuts, hair braiding, etc. My husband was held up in broad daylight 2 blocks away. Cops did nothing, didn't care and would not give us a copy of their "report". Water was of course beautiful. Too bad this place is too dangerous to visit. It's ruined. The locals in general treat travelers pretty rudely. They rarely make eye contact, rarely answer your questions - just plain arrogant. Also many locals (men) were drunk, strung out or just crazy. Lots of marijuana. We have been to many islands and Mexico- these people seem really angry that we visit. Which is sad; the island is clearly run down and tourism has to be suffering. I guess the locals want their island back. They can have it.

    Great View at sunset

Beach and water are great - really beautiful at sunset. However, no idea how this place is a Fodor's choice, since Magen's Bay beach is far superior. If you have two days, you could do both, but if you only have one day - defintely choose Magen's Bay! The "restrooms/changerooms" here are a disaster - nasty, no place to sit, and lots of mosquitos. Put that with the feeling that our stuff was not safe here... we wanted to leave. But once we had a few drinks and got in the water - we forgot about the shortcomings.
