Café Roma
Café Roma Review
This second-floor restaurant in the heart of Cruz Bay is the place for traditional Italian cuisine: lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, and three-cheese manicotti. Small pizzas are available at the table, but larger ones are for takeout or at the bar. Rum-caramel bread pudding is a dessert specialty. This casual place can get crowded in winter, so show up early.

Wow, what a hidden gem. We have been to St. John on numerous occassions, and have always passed by Cafe Roma. This trip we got to meet the owner, John, while taking the ferry accross from St Thomas. He gave us insightful tidbits of information about the islands, and was charming to talk to. That evening we visited Cafe Roma, and let me tell you, it was the best meal we've had on the island. The menu is extensive and very reasonably priced. The portions are huge. Especially the homemade Tiramisu we had for dessert. We started our dinner with warm fresh bread which they serve with a homeade taponade for spreading. It was really good. Then we had specialty salad of local organic mixed greens, walnuts, dried cranberries, gorganzola, pecorino cheese and their own balsamic dressing. Then we had the blackened sea scallops over crustini and smothered in lobster sauce. Fantastic! My husband had the rack of lamb marsala served with fettuccini alfredo. I had the lobster, scallops and crabmeat manicotti with a sherry lobster cream sauce and topped with asparagus and cheese. We could see pizza being served at the bar, and they looked and smelled fabulous. My advice to you is that when you are on St John don't miss this restauarnt. It's great.
