St. Croix's three courses welcome you with spectacular vistas. Check with your hotel or the tourism department to determine when major celebrity tournaments will be held. There's often an opportunity to play with the pros.

Buccaneer Golf Course. The Buccaneer Resort 18-hole course, near Christiansted, mixes fun with risk. Some of the par fours are within reach of a long drive, making birdies possible. However, miscues on holes that run near the ocean or have ponds can be costly for those keeping score. Most golfers' memories are of the beautiful views, not the sand traps. The signature third hole with the green sitting above a rocky coastline has some calling this course the Caribbean Pebble Beach. Rte. 82, Christiansted, Saint Croix, 00820. 340/712–2144; www.thebuccaneer.com. $105.

Carambola Golf Club. Golfers should enjoy the exotic beauty of this difficult course in the rain forest designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. because they might not enjoy their score. An extra sleeve of balls might also be required. The long water holes never return splash balls and the jungle rough seldom does. Most fairways are forgiving with ample landing area, but the length of many holes makes it challenging. Rte. 69, Estate River, Saint Croix, 00820. 340/778–5638; www.golfcarambola.com. $125.

The Links at Divi St. Croix. This attractive minigolf course is just across from the Divi Carina Bay Resort. Rte. 60, Estate Turner Hole, Saint Croix, 00820. 340/773–9700; www.divicarina.com. $8. Fri.–Sun. 4–9.

Reef Golf Course. If you want to enjoy panoramic Caribbean views without paying high costs, the public, 9-hole Reef Golf course on the island's East End is the place to go. The course design is basic, but the views from the hillside are spectacular. Trees on this course very seldom enter into play, and sand traps are absent. The seventh hole with its highly elevated tee is the most interesting. Rte. 82, Teague's Bay, Saint Croix, 00820. 340/773–8844. $40.
