The town is noted less for its Danish than for its Victorian architecture, which dates from after the slave uprising and the great fire of 1878. One long cruise-ship pier juts into the sparkling sea. It's the perfect place to start a tour of this quaint city. The Visitor Center (200 Strand St. 340/772-0357), across from the pier, has brochures from numerous St. Croix businesses. You can stop in weekdays from 8 to 5 to view exhibits on St. Croix.
