Fish Trap

$$-$$$$, Eclectic, St. John

User Rating: ** 2.2

Fodor's Review:

The rooms here all open to the breezes and buzz with a mix of locals and visitors. Start with a tasty appetizer like conch fritters and fish chowder (a creamy combination of snapper, white wine, paprika, and secret spices). You can always find steak and chicken dishes, as well as an interesting pasta of the day.

Huge Disappointment

Posted by akexandrapendery from Chicago on 9/25/07

My husband and I were so excited to try this place--the menu looks amazing. However, we were both disappointed with the quality of the food and the atmosphere. This is right off the main road and you are surrounded by fluorescent lights. Very expensive for the quality as well.

Great food and service

Unusual international menu. The fresh yellowfin tuna was requested medium rare and done just right. The service was friendly, informal and attentive. The atmosphere is unpretentious and fun.

Somone changed the recipie

Posted by mimiworld from Greenville SC on 1/1/07

OK I reviewed this place 2 years ago and it's always been a favortie. We go 2 times a year and ALWAYS eat here. So this year for Christmas we go only to find out it's not the same. When you find a good recipie you keep it. With a restaurant when you find the recipie for sucess you certainly don't change it so what happened here? We got the run down from our waitress, "New Management"! Aaron their head chef is no longer there, Craig the manager is no longer there and the place is suffering for it. They have karokee now! Are you kidding me? I come to St. John to relax, if I wanted karokee I'd go to Cancun or Cabo! The only thing we liked was Paulie was still behind the bar serving drinks. So, if you go to St. John go there for drinks and go somewhere else for dinner. Just make sure you don't show up on Karokee night! One last thing - we did find out Aaron is opening up a new place on St. Thomas and thank goodness we found Craig. He's at La Tapa and we ate there 2 times and loved it.
