Agave Terrace

$$-$$$$, Seafood, St. Thomas

Fodor's Review:

At this open-air restaurant in the Point Pleasant Resort, fresh fish is the specialty, served as steaks or fillets, and the catch of the day is listed on the blackboard. More than a dozen sauces, including teriyaki-mango and lime-ginger, liven up your entrée. If you get lucky on a sportfishing day charter, the chef will cook your catch if you bring the fish in by 3 PM. Come early and have a drink at the Lookout Lounge, which has breathtaking views of the British Virgins.

Over priced, Over recommended, Nice View

All the books and websites recommended Agave Terrace, so we made reservations before we left home. When we arrived the tables were closer than I felt like they should have been, but the view was nice. Our waiter was bumbling and he acted put out when we said we needed a minute, after he had only given us about 2 minutes with the menu. The only parts of the meal that were worth the money were the drinks (they were strong) and the appetizer -- the Treasure Chest that had seared scallops, duck spring rolls and a crab dish. If we hadn't had that, I would have counted the evening as a bust. We both ordered the combination dinners. I had steak and lobster; my dining companion had steak and crabcake. The steaks were terrible tough, flavorless. My lobster was overcooked and therefore very chewy. Her crabcake was almost all filler. We spent $150 on dinner (1 drink a piece, the appetizer, our meals and tip), it was not $150 well spent.

Terrible food and service x2

My husband and I live on St. Thomas and ate here when we first moved here 2 years ago and thought the food/service was great. We have been back twice since then and are convinced that new managemnt took over because the food and service have been terrible.
