These modestly sized lodgings sit seaside in the peaceful community of Cane Bay. They're perfect for folks who don't need every amenity but want to be right at the water's edge. All the rooms in the two-story buildings have no-frills kitchenettes, the usual rattan furniture with tropical accents, and balconies or porches that put you almost on the beach. You can rent dive gear nearby to explore St. Croix's famous Cane Bay Wall.

I agree with Frommer's description of this property. My wife and I have been coming here for 10 years. Just now leaving after a week stay (with 31 yr old son) and will be returning later this august for another week. The negative posts here are off the mark given the change of property owners. If it was as bad as portrayed, I wouldn't stay here year after year sometimes in consecutive months. New owners are in process of upgrading physical aspects including the fresh water pool. If you want a resort, all inclusive and are a clean freak like "monk" on TV-dont go here. If you are a watersports enthusiast who likes a very clean, but rustic rooms, unpretentious people, locals and good food (food themes nightly) and lounge around in shorts and flip flops, come here. They even have WIFI, a Humphrey Bogart themed down home outdoor bar "Bogeys" with the best sunsets. Award winning texas draw poker nights too. Stay in rooms named coconut, pointsetia and alleanda.

We went here on Fodor's recommendation and were somewhat disapointed.New owner's just took over and need to update the rooms. Our room was not clean, the pool was neglected, the immediate beach was rocky, windows taped shut with plastic, dirty stove. You need a car if you stay here. Groceries were very expensive-if you plan on cooking bring staples from home such as coffee, tea, boxed snax, also buy bottled water. Taxis are more expensive than guide book listed-at the airport they added $2-per bag on top of the flat rate. We really liked the North Shore but should have stayed somewhere else-a better choice would have been the newly renovated Waves at Cane Bay.
